Commemoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake

 Taking an opportunity of the 1st anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on March 11, 2011, the Consul-General Mr. Yoshida hosted a reception to commemorate victims of the disaster at his residence on March 26, 2012.
 As a guest of honour, H.E. Dr. Nabil Bukhary, Director of Protocol Department of Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Makkah Al-Mokaramah Region Branch) and around 230 guests including Saudi Government officials, Saudi businessmen, consular corps in Jeddah and Japanese residents attended the ceremony.
 Mr. Yoshida expressed in the speech his heartfelt sorrow over the massive damage to Japan and also extended his sincere gratitude to the generous support from Saudi Arabia introducing representatives of voluntary supporters as shown below:
-Elementary school pupils who presented their drawings to encourage Japanese children in the affected areas.
-High school students who collected donations from their pockets.
-A company owner who donated a considerable amount of money.
 The onsite panel exhibition and the documentary video presentation showing devastation of the disaster area as well as heart-warming supports from all over the world including Saudi Arabia enhanced participants' understanding about the earthquake.
 To show fortitude of the affected people from Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures, their recently-made specialty handicrafts were presented to the participants.
