Lecture at OIC by Professor HIGASHI of Japan's Sophia University

On September 1, Professor HIGASHI Daisaku, Professor at Insitutite of International Relations, Sophia University in Japan, delivered a lecture on humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan at the headquarter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
 
In his lecture titled "Japan's Foreign and Humanitarian Policies in Afghanistan and the Region," Prof. HIGASHI introduced the activities of the late Dr. NAKAMURA Tetsu's Peshawar-kai/PMS and their success story in reviving a desert area into a green agricultural field. He also pointed out that the OIC has been playing an important role in supporting Afghanistan. He also expressed his hope for further cooperation between Japan and the OIC in Afghanistan and the Middle East, including in the fields of agriculture and education.
 
About 30 senior officials of the OIC attended the lecture, and a lively exchange of views followed it. At the closing, Representative of Japan to the OIC and Consul-General Mr. SHIMMURA expressed his gratitude to the OIC for kindly hosting this lecture.
