The First Jeddah Japanese Speech Contest

On the evening of October 27, the Consulate-General of Japan in Jeddah, in cooperation with Saudi Association of Japan Graduates and Associates (SAJGA) in Jeddah and Japanese Society in Jeddah, held the first Japanese speech contest in Jeddah at the residence of Consul-General.
1. The total of 13 participants from the beginner level and 4 from the advanced level participated. The Award of Consul-General of Japan in Jeddah was given to Mr. Ahmed Ashour, the first place winner in the advanced level, and the Award of the president of SAJGA was given to Ms. Lubna Al Turkistani, the first place winner in the beginner level, and the Award of the president of Japanese Association in Jeddah was given to Ms. Amal Alahmadi, the second place winner in the beginner level. In addition, Consul-General Shimmura presented all the other participants with an Encouragement Award.
2. Mr. Ashour said in his speech “I have gained a lot of knowledge in Japan, and I have a role to play for myself. I want to spread what I have learned in Japan to the youth of Saudi Arabia as much as possible. In this way, I can clearly say that I have become a bridge between Japan and Saudi Arabia.”, and received enthusiastic applause from the audience. Other participants also commented on how the experience had been a great encouragement to them in their Japanese language studies and how they would like to make use of this experience to further improve their Japanese language skills.
3. Consul-General Shimmura, in his opening remarks, stated that this speech contest was a part of the wide-ranging cooperation between Japan and Saudi Arabia based on the "Japan-Saudi Vision 2030" and expressed his hope that this speech contest would promote friendly relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia and encourage Japanese fans in Saudi Arabia. He also congratulated Abdulhafeez Samarqandi on his receiving the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY2022. In his remarks prior to the ceremony, Dr, Samarkandi expressed his gratitude to the participants and hoped that they would continue to improve their Japanese language skills and will work as a bridge between Japan and Saudi Arabia.
