On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Japan Rice and Rice Industry Export Promotion Association (JRE) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) held a promotional event in Jeddah for Japanese rice and other rice products as well as Japanese fishery products. The event, which was held at Fuji Restaurant in Jeddah, was also supported by the Embassy of Japan in Saudi Arabia and the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah.

The event, which was held during a JRE delegation's visit to Jeddah from December 4 to 7, is part of an all-Japan effort to promote Japanese rice and other rice products such as rice crackers and rice drinks overseas. Participants included local importers and distributors in Saudi Arabia, and they all enjoyed the taste of these Japanese ingredients, mostly imported from Japan, supervised and prepared by a Japanese chef, which helped them deepen their conviction of the attractiveness of Japanese rice and seafood products and would encourage them to purchase and use Japanese products.

"Considering the importance and potential of the Saudi Arabian market, we decided to continue our promotion," said Mr. Ryo Kimura, Chairman of JRE, at the opening of the event. Hoping that the guests will enjoy delicious Japanese rice products, Mr. Kimura added, "We hope and expect that the export of Japanese rice products will be established and further expanded through your valuable network in Saudi Arabia".

Mr. Fumio Iwai, Ambassador of Japan to Saudi Arabia, also delivered a speech. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all the buyers and suppliers who attended the event for their commitment to expanding the business of Japanese rice products in Saudi Arabia, and said: "As you know, rice has always been the stable food in Japan. It is believed (that) the origin of today's Japanese rice and rice farming was first brought to Japan from the continental area about 3,000 years ago." He then added that the Japanese rice we can taste today is the crystallization of continuous quality improvement as well as the accumulation of knowledge of its cooking in Japan.

The event was attended by representatives from various local buyers. They praised the refined taste and texture of Japanese rice and recognized that with the growing understanding and interest in Japanese food in Jeddah and throughout Saudi Arabia, this high quality Japanese rice has the potential to become more popular not only in Saudi restaurants but also on the tables of Saudi families.
