Japanese Professor at KAUST honored with Foreign Minister's Commendation

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, represented by H.E. Ms. Yoko Kamikawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held the awards ceremony for the fiscal year 2024, and from Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, which is one of the jurisdictions covered by the Consulate-General, Prof. Takashi Gojobori, Distinguished Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), was awarded this year’s award for his contribution to the scientific and technological cooperation between Japan and Saudi Arabia.
 

 


Following are Professor Gojobori's contributions leading to him being awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendation: 
 
Professor Gojobori was invited by Saudi Arabia and appointed as a special professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2013 after Prime Minister Abe visited Saudi Arabia in 2013, This appointment was part of a broader agreement to enhance educational cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and promote human resource development. Since his appointment he has worked to develop human resources in the field of science and technology at the university, and has also worked to promote industry-government-academic cooperation between the university and related organizations in Japan. He has contributed to the promotion of people-to-people and academic exchanges between the two countries for many years, has made him a significant intermediary between Japanese government officials, universities, companies, etc.
 
  
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups of outstanding achievements in international fields, to acknowledge their contribution to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries.
