The Consulate-General of Japan in Jeddah Organizes the Japanese Language Speech Contest

On Thursday, October 24, 2024, as part of its continuous efforts to enhance cultural exchange with Saudis and promote the Japanese culture and language, the Consulate-General of Japan in Jeddah held the 3rd Japanese Speech Contest, kindly hosted by King Fahd Public Library in Jeddah and in cooperation with the Saudi Association of Japanese Graduates and Friends (SAJGA) and the Japanese Association in Jeddah.
At the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Daisuke Yamamoto, Consul-General of Japan in Jeddah, in turn, gave a speech in which he thanked H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmadi and all the staff of the library for their great cooperation in organizing this competition. He also thanked SAJGA, the Japanese Association in Jeddah, and the competition judges, Mr. Sase and Mr. Taro Shintani, Principle of the Japanese School in Jeddah, and Mr. Ryutaro Saiki who has experience as a Japanese Language Teacher.
Mr. Satoshi Sase, President of the Japanese Association in Jeddah, commended organizing this competition against the backdrop of the good bilateral relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Amid a large audience of those interested in the Japanese culture, 13 contestants participated in the competition, showing great skill in speaking Japanese in a way that amazed the audience.
The beginner level contestants gave speeches on “How do you study Japanese and what is your goal in learning Japanese?” while the advanced level contestants gave speeches on “What is your message on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?”.
Ms. Eman Almuallimi, the first place winner in the advanced level, said in her speech: “Our relationship, which has spanned 70 years, has brought about many achievements in the fields of culture, economy, and technology. Our countries have built a strong friendship by respecting culture each other and deepening mutual understanding…Let's face new challenges together and aim for further development over the next 70 years. I hope that our ties will continue in the future.”
H.E. Mr. Yamamoto concluded his speech by expressing his great hope that today’s competition will be an opportunity for all participants to improve their Japanese language and to be bridges connecting Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
