The Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah Organizes a Kabuki Show at Teamlab in Jeddah

On Wednesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 6, 2025, as part of its celebration of the 70th anniversary of the entablement of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as part of its continued efforts to enhance cultural exchange with the Saudi people and promote Japanese culture and language and in the presence  of large audience of Japanese culture fans, the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah, in cooperation with the Historic Jeddah Program, held a Kabuki show at the teamLab Museum in Historic Jeddah. 

 

On the first day of the show, which was honored by a number of officials from the Historic Jeddah Program and other ministries and a number of Consuls general in Jeddah, Mr. Abdul Elah Al-Hadidi, from the Historic Jeddah Program, delivered a speech expressing their happiness with the cultural cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah. He welcomed the guests, emphasizing the significant role the Historic Jeddah Program plays in achieving the cultural goals of "Saudi Vision 2030" and strengthening cultural ties between the Kingdom and the world. 

 

For his part, H.E. Mr. Daisuke Yamamoto, Consul General of Japan in Jeddah, delivered a speech in which he thanked the Historic Jeddah Program Administration for their extensive cultural cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah and for hosting this show, following their kind hosting of a Manga cultural exhibition that ran from mid-February to early March. 

 

Kabuki is a form of traditional Japanese theater that combines dance, drama, and music. It has been performed for over 400 years and is listed on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is famous for its dramatic narrative style, distinctive movements, vibrant costumes, and striking makeup. 

 

The Consulate General of Japan invited Mr. Hayato Nakamura, a renowned Kabuki actor, and a Kabuki troupe consisting of Ms. Mitsuyoshi Sasaki  Second, a Tsugaru Shamisen player, and Mr. Taisei Otoma and Mr. Hikaru Ishii, Japanese drummers. 

 

The two-day performance received applause and admiration from the audience.
