Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah Hosts Reception for Guests of the Red Sea Film Festival

On Sunday, December 7, 2025, as part of its celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its ongoing efforts to promote cultural exchange with the Saudi people, the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah at the suggestion of the Red Sea Film Foundation hosted a reception for guests of the Red Sea Film Festival, which is being held at the Jeddah Historic District.
The reception was honored by the presence of fifty guests, including government officials, several Consuls General accredited to Jeddah, officials from the Jeddah Historic Project, guests of the Red Sea Film Festival, and many interested Saudi friends.
At the beginning of the reception, H.E. Mr. Daisuke Yamamoto, the Consul General of Japan in Jeddah, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the distinguished attendees and thanked the Saudi Ministry of Culture, represented by the Jeddah Historic District and the Red Sea Film Foundation, for their great cultural cooperation with the Consulate and for the hosting this year of a number of Japanese cultural events in Jeddah Historical District and the Festival’s screening of five Japanese films in this session, looking forward to more cooperation in the future.
Mr. Yamamoto stated in his address, "Cinema is a noble art and a global cultural window that connects peoples and fosters cultural exchange, thus promoting openness to cultural diversity. This is precisely what the Kingdom seeks and has placed as one of the most important cultural objectives of its ambitious comprehensive plan, 'Saudi Vision 2030,' launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Our two friendly countries are collaborating to achieve this vision through the “Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030” Committee,' and the Ministry of Culture, through its Jeddah Historical District, is implementing it with insightful and open leadership to the fullest extent."
He concluded his remarks by noting that the Red Sea Film Festival, in just four editions, has become one of the most important international festivals, as evidenced by the keen interest shown by leading international film stars from Hollywood, Bollywood, Arab cinema in attending its activities.
At the end of the reception, the guests enjoyed a dinner of authentic Japanese dishes prepared by the chef of the Japanese Consul-General in Jeddah.
